Online Application Process

Applications to the nursing program are accepted only through the online application system. Instructions for each component are provided within the online application.

Personal Demographics & GPA
Holistic Admissions 

During the application process, we request optional but suggested information.

  • Life experiences such as economic disadvantage, overcoming significant personal challenges, military veteran status, and experience with cultural diversity
  • Work Experience, Volunteerism, and Leadership Experience 
  • Attributes like first generation college student, fluently speaking two or more languages, and more
Recorded Video Interview

Applicants will provide a link to a recorded video “interview” lasting less than 5 minutes answering two questions:

  • What qualifies you for a position in DSU’s Nursing Program?
  • What will you contribute to the nursing profession?
  • File upload instructions included in online application
Pre-Admission Test Results
  • Only the HESI A2 Exam is accepted
    • Test is open year-round at DSU Professional Testing Center
    • Instructions before Testing
    • No substitutions (TEAS, Kaplan, other exams are not accepted)
    • Results valid for one year
    • Recommended HESI Score for each section is 70%
      • Testing remediation and subsequent retesting before application submission is highly recommended on any section scored under 75%
    • Test Retakes
      • No limit on testing retakes per application cycle
        • Wait 30-45 days in between testing sessions, if possible
      • You must retake the entire HESI A2 exam even if you only scored low in one section.

  • Select “Pre-Licensure Nursing Application Fee
  • Screenshot receipt and include with application
Application Completion, Review & Notification
  • Completion
    • Students are responsible for the completion and timely submission of their application file.
    • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
    • Late applications are not accepted.
  • Review
  • Notification
    • Application status is sent via Dmail approximately 15 business days after the application due date.
    • Final admission of each candidate is contingent on the successful completion of the required prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher and all program requirements.
    • Students who are denied admission are responsible for submitting a new application each admission cycle and are reviewed as a member of the current applicant pool.

Applications for Spring 2019 admission are now closed

Fall 2019 admission – Applications open March 2019, due May 8, 2019 by 5:00pm

Spring 2020 admission – Applications open July 2019, due in September 

Spring Admission Timeline
  • September 10th
    • Applications due by 5 pm
  • September 30th
    • Dmail notifications sent to applicants by today
    • No phone calls will be taken from students checking on admission status
  • October 15th
    • Due: Signed Acceptance Agreement by 5 pm
  • November 20th
    • Due: All health requirements (flu vaccination completed after Aug 31st) & CNA certification
  • January 5th
    • Due: Grades for all prerequisite courses not submitted with application
Fall Admission Timeline

    • Applications due by 5 pm

  • June 15th
    • Due: Signed Acceptance Agreement by 5 pm
  • July 25th
    • Due: All health requirements (seasonal flu vaccine due after start of the 1st semester) & CNA certification
  • August 15th
    • Due: Grades for all prerequisite courses not submitted with application
  • October 15th 
    • Due: Seasonal Flu Vaccination (completed after August 1st)
