Master of Athletic Training (MAT)
The Professional Masters of Athletic Training degree (MAT) at Dixie State University, which will seek accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), is designed to prepare students to become athletic training professionals. Professional athletic training education uses a skills-based approach in both the classroom and clinical setting to provide comprehensive patient care in five domains of clinical practice:
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Immediate and emergency care
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- Organization and professional health and well-being.
Upon successful completion of the MAT program, graduates are qualified to take the Board of Certification (BOC) exam to become certified Athletic Trainers. Certified Athletic Trainers are employed in professional and collegiate sports, secondary and intermediate schools, sports medicine clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, fitness centers, military programs, and physician offices. Many graduates go on to schools of physical and occupational therapy, as well as medical school.
