Master of Athletic Training (MAT)
The Professional Masters of Athletic Training degree (MAT) at Dixie State University is designed to prepare students to become athletic training professionals. Professional athletic training education uses a skills-based approach in both the classroom and clinical setting to provide comprehensive patient care in five domains of clinical practice:
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Immediate and emergency care
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- Organization and professional health and well-being.
Upon successful completion of the MAT program, graduates are qualified to take the Board of Certification (BOC) exam to become certified Athletic Trainers. Certified Athletic Trainers are employed in professional and collegiate sports, secondary and intermediate schools, sports medicine clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, fitness centers, military programs, and physician offices.
Dixie State University is currently seeking accreditation for their new Athletic Training program and is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation process on July 1, 2020. Submission of the self-study and completion of a site visit does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. Students that graduate from the program prior to accreditation WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the credentialing examination for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states.
